Kelly Robinson has been around music since he was born. He spent much of his childhood around the piano with his father who is an accomplished painter, piano player, and songwriter . Kelly picked up the bass in 1982 and quickly began playing and singing along with the radio. He started writing songs and playing them with others when he was 15 years old. Since that time he has written over 100 songs, has played in over 10 bands, and completed 6 CD projects. His latest on-going project is the local Austin band called Bakin' Brownies where he fills the role of singer-songwriter and bass player. In addition to being a full-time chef by trade he is also quite the handy-man. He converted a portion of his garage into an excellent rehearsal space, is an avid gardener, and takes a lead role in all aspects of the band management. Kelly has been a consistent contributer to the Austin music scene over the years and has never refused a benefit, monetary contribution, or kind word where other musicians or clubs were concerned. By all accounts he will continue to bring enjoyment to his audiences by putting out energetic, soulful, quality music for many more years to come.

Born in Fort Worth Texas moving on to several cities in New Mexico and finishing high school and some College in Alpine Texas, I decided to pursue drumming in 1979 full time. I started with a punk band in the late 70's known as Sensuous Plastique playing Austin and around Texas, which later evolved into a band known as the New Torpedos performing with a variety of musicians for 14 years. I later joined a talented trio of brothers in a band in the mid 90's known as Stonepillow. Stonepillow continues to perform as an acoustic trio. The band prior to Bakin' Brownies was a short lived experimental rock band with some exceptionally talented musicians who was previously known as Gambit.

I have been blessed as a musician to have worked with such fine song writers, musicians and performers for the past 24 years. The greatest credit for my longevity certainly goes to my loving family for their tolerance and patience over these many years as I continue to grow as a musician. My recording credits include full length record/CD with New Torpedos and Stonepillow.

I help with the vocals performing backup harmonies and supplying percussion support when I have a spare hand. I am excited to be a part of the Bakin Brownies specifically working with Dave, Paul and Kelly. I think we have a powerful mix of songs that will surprise and delight the audience. We hope to see you at our performances.

David Paul - guitar

Born: David Henry Paul. Still David Henry Paul.

Grew up w/ music around the house. Both parents play piano. Mom plays by ear, and reads. Plays old standards and anything she is thinking of at the time. Still don't know how she does it. Dad plays Boogie Woogie and various other great stuff. I learned boogie woogie basses as a small child. Still play them the same way.

Got turned on to such greats as Jobim through the both of them. Dad plays Jobim like soul music. I like it better than Bossa Nova. Grew up w/ 3 older brothers playing all kind of great old records. Fondest memories are those of hanging out in the summer with the living room doors open, listening to The Guess Who or Malo.

Learned to play piano in high school, then took up guitar at age 20. Originally played just forthe music and the dream of playing with guys and that magic that happens between musicians. (Maybe some day) Soon became jaded when I joined/formed my first band and played my first gig. Made $13.00 and picked up a rather large girl named Sue. Been hooked on playing music ever since.

Played in several bands through the years, covering classic rock and doing a handful of originals. Always thought that the originals were pretty good in those bands. Wanted to do more of that, but there wasn't that much of an audience for "original" bands then. Often played gigs w/a blues act called "The E.C. Eldridge Band" back in Lafayette, Indiana. It was a very unique and learning experience. Eric would bring down incredible, established, often legendary bluesmen and we would have the privilege of playing w/ them. (Willie "Big eyes" Smith, Pinetop Perkins, Lefty Dizz) Actually, I don't think I ever played w/ any of those guys. (I think I helped put up flyers.) Historical note: The Stones once flew to Chicago to see Lefty Dizz. You'd be standing on stage thinking, "That's Buddy Guy's drummer sitting behind me." ("Killer" Ray Allison). Learned a lot about what it meant to be a "blues player" and realized "how far" I had to go to become one.

Moved to Austin in '97 and didn't really get into the music scene until '99. Well, didn't really then. Played w/some buddy's through which I met Kelly. Was kind of turned on by some of the catchy songwriting. Saw a lot of potential brewing there. Still do. Became friends w/ Kelly but was resistant to join his band upon being asked. Finally did and have regretted it ever since. No, just kidding. I've only recently regretted it. No, just kidding. I was afraid that playing w/ a good buddy would ruin our friendship. It did. I hate Kelly now. No, just kidding!

Still trying to work up to working up to thinking about writing some of my own songs, but having a hard time finding time and motivation. Poor excuse. Well, buy our cd so we can go record another one EVEN better than this one. Currently looking to join Big Breasted, All female, Bi-sexual rock band as side project. Will gladly play any role in band.

Carl Eckhardt - keyboards

Born Houston, Texas 1957
Austinite since Sept 25, 1989

Carl was different from most kids, and that fact remains the same as an adult. His parents claimed that he was picking out melodies he'd heard since age 4, but they held off getting him lessons until age 8. So, from age 8 to age 16 it was a strict regime of classical piano, including Beethoven, J.S. Bach, Clementi, Grieg, Mozart, etc… He also took up the trombone in the 6th grade and kept it up for the next 5 years, while taking 1st chair in the region and getting several state solo medals. He left home at age 16 when school bullies left him no other recourse (he thought); and then decided to join the U.S. Navy at age 17 with his parent's consent. Departing from the music focus, he took up electronics as an avionics technician for the first 3 of his 6 years. Then, he discovered the U.S. Navy Band, and found out they had keyboard players playing music straight off the radio for recruiting purposes. That's what he did for the latter half of the Navy stint.

Following the service and re-entering the civilian world, he returned to a technical career in electronics, while keeping up his music involvement with various cover bands in the Houston area. When an Austin-based semiconductor consortium moved him to the live music capital of the world in Austin, Texas; he played in various pop bands and country bands that even opened for the Bellamy Bros. and played venues like the Broken Spoke, Dance Across Texas, Pecan Street Festival, and Auditorium Shores. After a greater than 10 year absence from the whole scene, his desire to return to the scene dropped him where he sits today -with the Bakin Brownies.
